Pulehu Pizza

If you're Upcountry Pukelani way in Maui stop by in front of Long's Drug store for a culinary treat. Maui food vendor with wonderful pizzas baked in a BBQ; made to order.

Maui's Pulehu Pizza

On a recent trip to Maui we discovered some great pizza in a tent in front of the Pukalani Longs Drug Store.  This was actually one of a few stands that offer everything from sausages and hot dogs to sophisticated salads (and great pizza).

BBQ Pizza

Prepared crusts are topped with a variety of ingredients that vary by availability.  The pizzas are then baked in a BBQ as you wait.  Ingredients span from the traditional (Italian sausage) to more of an Island flair like Kalua pig and Maui pineapple.  While you wait for your pizza you can pop into Longs to buy beverages and any extras you might like. 

We tried the Paniolo with mixed sweet peppers, Italian sausage, asiago and mozzarella cheeses with a drizzle of homemade pesto.  It was terrific.  We purchased the "double" size ($12.95) which was perfect for three of us (small appetites) to share.  They even have an "Apple Pie" dessert pizza that looked fabulous and was recommended by another local patron.

* Pierre's Perfect Margherita  - Oven roasted tomatoes, fresh baby mozzarella and homemade organic pesto.

* Kalua Pig Supreme - Crisp kalua pig, Maui Gold Pineapple, sauteed red onion, homemade BBQ sauce, mozzarella and fresh cilantro.

* Vegie Lovers - sauteed mushrooms, oven roasted tomatoes, Kalamata olives, Feta cheese, mozzarella and homemade organic pesto.

* Cheese Pizza - Lots of Mozzarella!
